This is the Brooklyn Courthouse, I have walked by it a few times a week for the past year… I would like to say that it is decorated for Memorial Day, however, I have no idea, it really could look like this every night. It’s amazing how your basic awareness of things changes when you actually pay attention to the world around you, or alternately, don’t really care all that much. I’ve been in my apartment about 6 years now, and guess what, it’s not painted “paper bag brown” like I would have thought, nope, “dark blue”, I just checked. Go figure. Don’t let the fuchsia tones the Courthouse is bathed in fool you, New York still doesn’t have gay marriage.
Brooklyn Bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge… its one of those things you’ve just got to do every once in awhile, a cathartic experience I guess… insofar as sitting on the beach is a cathartic experience… sand isn’t something I enjoy all that much, not to mention sunburn and seagulls, but staring out at the ocean, well, I could do that for hours and that’s sort of what walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is, a more metropolitan version of losing yourself in the waves. See, I’m not a huge fan of walking or people, and you’ll find plenty of both once you take those first steps onto the bridge, but another few steps and your thoughts wander up to the spiderweb of cables stretching out to a vanishing point high over head, a couple more steps and the lights blend into a shapeless miasma that typifies the city, it’s all one big, hypnotic pinwheel that could hold its own against a few ocean swells.
